My best friend Carolyn is currently going through chemo and I am going through a divorce. It’s draining and we both feel exhausted most days. When I noticed that there was a chance for a beautiful sunset along Lake Michigan I told her that I was going to go on a mini road trip to visit a lighthouse and she was welcome to come with. We ate dinner, I grabbed my camera, and we were on our way! I chose my default camera and lens – a Sony a9ii with a 24-105mm lens. I knew we were going to be around a lot of sand and I don’t want to switch lens if I can help it.

Pulling into Silver Lake State Park, we were both filled with anticipation to see God’s painting in the sky. Running our fingers through the sand and listening to the waves was extremely serene. We both felt God’s loving presence at the beach. There’s something magical about watching the sunset and waiting to see the light turn on at a lighthouse. It’s nice to slow down and appreciate the natural beauty that God provides.
I brought my dog with us too. I like to tell myself he had fun chasing the waves and running through the sand but I honestly think he would have been just as happy curled up next to me at home. At one point I was taking a photo when another dog owner walked past with his two dogs and Roland lunged towards them to go say hi. I have a leash that I wear around my waist so that I can be hands free. When Roland lunged, he dragged me a short distance because I decided to prioritize keeping my camera off the sand and Carolyn and I couldn’t help but find the humor in it. My back pockets were full of sand, my shoes were full of sand, but my heart was happy and content. I could have yelled at Roland but he just wanted meet the other dogs!
I pray for you this day, that your feet will take you to places where happiness and fulfilment dwell. May sadness and disaster be far from you.
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
